From
March 3 to March 6, 2025, the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2025) is taking place
in Barcelona, Spain. ASR Microelectronics Co., Ltd. (ASR Microelectronics,
688220.SH) is highlighting its latest products, solutions, and market
achievements across four key application areas: Smart IoT, Smart Phones, Smart
Living, and In-Vehicle Communication. The company is sharing its latest
advancements in 5G RedCap, smart devices, and digital transformation with global
customers and partners, embracing the new opportunities and challenges of the
digital era.
At MWC 2025, ASR Microelectronics has launched the world’s first chipset platform supporting RedCap + Android, the ASR8603 series.
RedCap,
as a "lightweight" 5G technology, represents a crucial evolution of
5G for medium-speed, large-scale IoT applications. However, its adoption in
consumer-grade smart devices such as smart wearables and smartphones is still
in its early stages. RedCap technology enables stable and reliable native 5G
capabilities while offering the advantages of low power consumption and cost
efficiency. The introduction of the ASR8603 series, supporting both RedCap and
Android, not only accelerates the broad adoption of RedCap in smart IoT
applications but also marks a breakthrough for RedCap in lightweight
consumer-grade scenarios.
The
ASR8603 series complies with the 3GPP Release 17 standard and supports NR SA /
LTE Cat.4 dual-mode operation, covering mainstream frequency bands from 450MHz
to 6GHz. Featuring a quad-core big.LITTLE architecture, integrated RF systems,
and GNSS modules, the chipset simplifies antenna design while providing low
power consumption, high reliability, and extended battery life for 5G devices.
In terms of multimedia, ASR8603 supports a high-performance, low-power GPU and
H.265 / H.264 / VP8 decoding and encoding. Display-wise, it supports up to FHD+
resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring a smooth UI experience and
lightweight 3D gaming. The ASR8603 also integrates a hardware-based ISP and NPU
with up to 1TOPS computing power. A built-in low-power Sensor Hub dynamically
schedules NPU resources for AI-driven voice noise reduction, sensor data
analysis, and image processing, significantly reducing power consumption and
extending device battery life. Furthermore, the ASR8603 series inherits
essential 5G native capabilities, including network slicing, 5G LAN, high
reliability and low latency, high-precision positioning, and time
synchronization. By supporting the globally popular Android OS, the ASR8603
enables seamless integration with existing Android development resources,
accelerating product development and time-to-market. The combination of RedCap
and Android makes the ASR8603 platform an ideal solution for lightweight
consumer devices like smart wearables and a wide range of IoT applications.
At
MWC 2025, ASR Microelectronics also unveiled its new LTE octa-core smartphone
chipset platform, the ASR866X series. Designed for high integration and low
power consumption, this series stands out for its superior multimedia
capabilities among comparable products, offering greater diversity to the LTE
smartphone market.
The
ASR866X series features an advanced integrated architecture based on an 8-core
ARM Cortex CPU design, combining AP/RF/GNSS/FM in a single chip to simplify
hardware design and optimize power efficiency. Notably, it boasts exceptional
multimedia performance, featuring an ARM G310 GPU (with a clock speed of up to
819MHz), an in-house AI-powered ISP for enhanced image processing, and seamless
support for video streaming and gaming applications. The ASR866X also supports
multi-frame noise reduction and an in-house video stabilization algorithm,
ensuring outstanding low-light performance and improved image clarity.
Additionally, the chipset supports Apple’s HEIC photo format, offering superior
color accuracy while reducing file size to just one-third of a standard JPG,
allowing users to store three times as many photos with the same memory
capacity.
In terms of connectivity, the ASR866X series supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, GNSS, and FM, delivering a smooth and efficient network experience for smartphones. According to TechInsights’ Q4 2024 global smartphone market report, global smartphone shipments grew by 5.7% year-over-year, reaching 1.2178 billion units. This growth was driven primarily by emerging markets in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific, where 4G remains dominant due to slower 5G infrastructure deployment. As 4G and 5G markets continue to coexist with long-term demand, ASR Microelectronics' launch of its first quad-core smartphone chipset ASR8601 in 2024 and its new octa-core series in 2025 further diversifies its smartphone chipset portfolio, providing flexible solutions for the entry-level 4G smartphone market and contributing to the continued expansion of the global mobile ecosystem.
In
addition to launching multiple new products, ASR Microelectronics is showcasing
a wide range of solutions at MWC 2025 in collaboration with global clients.
In
the Smart IoT domain, ASR Microelectronics has been a leader for nearly a
decade, boasting a dominant market share in the global Cat.1 bis sector. The
